OpenAI & AARP Join Forces to Boost Online Safety for Older Adults

OpenAI has announced a partnership with AARP and its Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) to help older adults navigate the internet with greater confidence and protect themselves from online threats.

As the adoption of AI among older populations continues to grow, this partnership aims to address the urgent need for education and safeguards in this area. A number of key initiatives have been launched, including a new video resource that helps older adults spot common scams, “red flags,” and suspicious links. The video also demonstrates how ChatGPT can act as a “second pair of eyes” when evaluating questionable messages.

Why This Matters to Careberry

At Careberry, we’re passionate about digital inclusion and safety for every generation. This partnership sets a strong example of how AI education and community engagement can work hand in hand to protect vulnerable groups while empowering them to use new technologies confidently.

Older adults and their carers in the UK and EU face similar challenges around digital literacy and online scams. The OpenAI × AARP model offers valuable insights that can inspire similar programs closer to home —blending training, accessible tools, and trusted networks.
